This is what {new} looks like

A few photographer friends and I have decided to do a once a month theme centering around the phrase, “This is what ____ looks like.” We each interpret the theme as we see fit, and then share. So here is this month’s theme. New.

This is what new looks like.

Birth is new. It is a fresh chance. It is a new life, a new soul, a new family, a new joy. There is so much potential in a birth that it is palpable. Who will this new person be?¬†Someone’s new baby, an auntie’s new niece, a grandma’s a new grandbaby, a new friend, someone’s soul mate.

The birth process itself is a constant renewal. As each fresh wave of contraction hits, it is a new chance to be strong, to bring this life in to the world. And as the contraction ebbs, a chance to take a clear, new breath and refocus, until the final moment when that new baby is born and takes its first new breath in this world. The first new cry. A new body to nourish and cherish.
